I. Resume contains Lefko's cover letter sent with the donated materials which gives a description of the documents and photographs as well as a brief account of Lefko's World War II experiences. II. Photographs include the country & western group organized by Lefko; the landing at Iwo Jima by the 5th Amphibious Corps (which consisted of the 3rd, 4th and 5th Marine Divisions); and the place of manufacture of the Japanese suicide miniature submarines. III. Documents contain part of a translation from a Japanese document, a chaplain's memorial address at the 5th Marine Division cemetery, an article, "Battle of Iwo Jima, toughest of the War" by columnist David Lawrence, the outline of two atom bomb cities written by Lefko entitled "Tale of two cities," a translation by the U.S. Strategic Bombing Survey of newspaper articles published in the Nagasaki Shimbun dealing with the atomic bombings, and poems written by a graduate of the Japanese Language School about General Douglas MacArthur.

Orville B. Lefko was born on October 3, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan. He attended the University of Michigan and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1942 with a B.A. in Economics. He entered the U.S. Navy Japanese Language School at the University of Colorado and graduated on July 10, 1943. After receiving instruction in naval intelligence, Lefko was assigned to JICPOA in Pearl Harbor where he translated Japanese war documents and interviewed Japanese prisoners.
